NCVOA

” ELECTION AND INSTALLATION

OF OFFICERS

The Thursday, June 29 General Membership meeting is our final meeting before we break for the summer. This always is a special occasion as we elect and install our new slate of officers for 2017-2018.

                                                              Guest Speaker

                                       Hon. Thomas DiNapoli

                                                                                         New York State Comptroller

Thomas P. DiNapoli is the 54th Comptroller of the State of New York who’s known for his integrity, independence and steadfast leadership.

Since taking office in 2007, Tom DiNapoli has aggressively fought misuse of public resources, strengthened one of the nation’s top public pension funds, and consistently spoken out against fiscal gimmicks, imprudent actions and government inefficiency.

His life of public service started when he was elected as a trustee of the Mineola Board of Education, becoming the first 18-year-old in New York State to hold public office. He’s been making government more accountable and transparent to the people for more than 35 years.

Please make a note of the change in our typical meeting day from Tuesday to Thursday. We look forward to seeing you to support our new officers!

  FROM THE PRESIDENT’S DESK:

Dear Mayors, Trustees and Friends:

Over the past year, it has been an honor to serve as the President of the Nassau  County Village Officials Association – the most active and engaged Village Association in New York State.

As the 88th President of our distinguished organization, it has been a privilege to follow in the footsteps of past presidents in helping to advocate for our membership to the best of my ability. I am confident that our new President will continue to build upon the progress that we have made as an organization in advocating for our membership on a wide range of issues over the past several years. My congratulations to those members elected to their new responsibilities as of June 29th, and I look forward to working with them in my new role as Immediate Past President.

As I look back at the past year, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to forge new Relationships for the benefit of our Association. In particular, issues such as the LIRR third rail expansion, AIM funding and the New York State Shared Services Initiative offered the Executive Board the opportunity to respond to these proposals for the benefit of all. My thanks to all the members of the Executive Board and the Chair Officers during the past year – their insight and guidance proved invaluable.

While the strength of any organization is in its leadership as well as the participation of its membership, so much of what this organization represents is the result of our Executive Director – Warren Tackenberg. For sixteen years, Warren has been the heart and soul of our Association and it has been my pleasure to work with him over the past year. Thanks as well to Eric Ricioppo – Public Relations, Gary Fishberg – Association Counsel and John Kiernan – Davidoff Hutcher & Citron, LLP for their support and advice. Together, they represent a great team in place for the coming year.

It will be my distinct pleasure to introduce New York State Controller Thomas DiNapoli to the membership as my last official act as President on June 29th. His leadership, foresight and integrity as one of New York State’s highest elected officials is an example that all elected municipal officials should aspire to.

Once again, thank you for your confidence in me – it’s been a very rewarding year as your President both personally and professionally.

In good government;

Bernard D. Ryba

President – NCVOA

 Happy Birthday Roger Fay:

                                                       Special Milestone

Here’s a trivia question for our members. Which former NCVOA mayor holds the distinction of being born before his village was incorporated?

Give up? The answer is Roger Fay, former mayor of the Village of Williston Park, NCVOA past president and NCVOA Executive Director Emeritus, who was born July 20, 1917. The Village of Williston Park, where Roger served as mayor in the 1960s, was incorporated in 1926!.

Roger is celebrating a special milestone this July 20 as he turns 100 years old.

A staunch supporter of village government and a fixture in the Village of Williston Park, Roger Fay and his late son, Vincent, are the only father and son to have served as village mayor and NCVOA president.

As NCVOA Executive Director Emeritus, Roger has been a valuable advisor and historian for the organization. He had been a regular participant at Executive Committee and General Membership meetings until the past year, when health issues caused him to slow down.

The Village of Williston Park will be honoring Roger at a special reception on August 15, 2017.  The NCVOA is pleased and proud to join the salute to such a distinguished and highly respected public servant.

Happy Birthday, Roger. We thank you for your years of dedicated service to the NCVOA and wish you many more happy and healthy years ahead!
